Fantastic article Ann - I especially relate to "pay attention to the contract" part. As creative people we want to get to the good stuff but realizing the importance of the business will save you a lot of heartache later. Lastly, I really love that you said to be nice to other writers... as a business network owner I am shocked at how competitive people are not realizing that developing those relationships could land you more work as if one person is too busy they often refer to trust allies in their industry.

Thanks for these excellent tips, Ann. Although I've been freelancing for several years, I can always learn something new from other veterans, and this article is an example of that. Point #10 particularly resonates with me right now.

Awesome list! I was just getting back into writing to earn some money for college (ugh...at the age where money actually matters now) and this post was very informative and helpful.

I think my number one problem is pricing - I'm just not good at it. I don't do hourly rates simply because I do things extremely quickly. So when it comes to per/article pricing or per/word pricing I'm just about stuck.

Ann, thank you so much for sharing this! Great tips. I must say that you certainly shine at number one - you've always been great to other writers. (And we appreciate it!).

Ann, this is brilliant. Now that I'm back into this game full time, it's wonderful to have friends and mentors like you.

Sorry I missed your session. I was in the Online Networking session with Lisa Murphy, which is how I found out how good Twitter might be for my business.

Hey Ann, this top ten list is fantastic. I think loving what you do is excellent advice. First, if you are doing what you enjoy, it won't feel like work. Second, you're going to be a lot better at something you are passionate about. All in all, very excellent tips. You can post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and link back to your site. We are trying to create a directory for top ten lists where people can find your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

Ann, What an excellent Article. This list is applicable to those of us that only write a little as much as for full time writers. Thanks!
