what up Emily!

"Scare yourself with something new and your comfort zone will suck you back in like a black hole all the while turning on the faucet of vocabulary and plot."

I definitely think doing something out of my comfort zone really inspires me to put some words down. Any brand new energy just gets the creative juices going!

[...] An Unusual Cure for Writer’s Block Funny thing with Emily Smith’s post is that I completely agree, there is nothing like getting a new job and having all your time sucked away to make you more productive with your writing. Funny world. [...]

I completely agree with this excellent posting!! To avoid/grapple with writer's block, it's important to "cross-train" the brain by engaging in different activities. I oil paint and draw, and it helps fuel my writing more than staring at a blank page and blaming myself.

Y'know, I think we should do our own version of NaNo. Like..."Fueled Up February" or something! Set our own rules and get everyone involved!

Or I could be high on chocolate and sinus meds.... ;-)

You know it's funny - this is exactly what I've done a few times, but with a twist - do something with an almost impossible deadline and in the last 24 hours before the deadline, work like crazy to complete it. Yes, very risky, but it's forced me to learn some things under pressure.

I, too, have always found that to get away for a bit and do something else makes it so my *friends* start talking to me again. I had to put a novel away for almost six months once to make it happen, but at least I was able to do other writing in the meantime. Soon, my characters became jealous of my new work and started jabbering away like they'd never stopped.
Also, I didn't do the exact same thing as you, but this past month I've been busy with other ventures (which totally made me have to give up my NaNo dream *tear*) but my fingers are getting itchy to get back to rewrites and then some new stuff to finish the novel I mentioned.
Time away and directing your attention elsewhere is Definitely a great way to "cure" writer's block! Thanks for the article!!!
