Becoming a Writer: Don’t Complicate Things!
Where do you start? Just start writing.
First, forget about things like margins, format, spelling, etc. Just start writing. Revisions come later.
Second, write about anything. From spring tulips to tractor pulls, just pen your thoughts about any topic you find interesting. Chances are someone else might find it interesting too.
Third, edit, review and finalize. Many writers make edits every time they can, including their own work. Try not to fall into this trap. Finalize the article, and give yourself a pat on the back.
Next step? Start writing again.

Thanks Susan. Concise and straightforward post.
Timely information when procrastination and thinking of every excuse not to write afflicts me.
Guess I’d better get writing then. Thanks for the kickstart.
Glad I was helpful, and thanks for your comments!
Now that’s what you call, to the point :-)
Get it written. Get it right later.
Simple advice but so hard to follow, especially when word processors make correcting as you go so easy. It’s times like this when you need to rediscover your favourite notebook and pen.
Thanks for your feedback and your suggestion to keep pen and paper ready!
Kudos!
Short, sweet, to the point — and right on the money.
Perfect advice!
Thanks for your feedback!
Mr Uku is correcto. I find it very tough not to edit as I go. In fact I find it practically impossible. But it’s sound advice. Must try harder.
I completely understand. Of course, this can easily fall under the “do as I say, not as I do” category!

Love this. This is exactly the approach I take. Get it all out there, then revise, revise, revise… Many graphic designers also take this approach; it is an excellent recommendation for any creative field.
