It’s That Time of Year Again!

Like last year, we will be looking into the writing madness that is NaNoWriMo, which begins today. Unlike last year, we will be following two people’s experiences – Jenn Czep and her son, JD!

Jenn – The 10-Timer

Let the writing begin! This will be my tenth NaNoWriMo! Wow, a decade of this insanity, and I am still looking forward to it, this may count as proof that writers are mentally unstable. What makes this NaNoWriMo even more exciting than any previous years though?

This year my son, JD, is joining the race! Every year he tells his friends that mom writes in November, that is the excuse for piled dishes, microwave meals, higher frequency of play dates and zero grounding. November is JD’s party month, typically. So imagine my surprise when he said he wanted to sign on! Pride replaced surprise though and I am giddy just thinking about taking my budding novelist to write-ins, kick-off parties and the ever-blessed TGIO shindig.

I am still waffling between writing the next volume of pirate adventures or something completely different and on the verge of a steampunk story. I can’t wait to see what other NaNoers have planned, please share your story plans below if you are taking part this year! JD has his story plotted, and fantasy abounds, but I will hand the keyboard over to him and let him tell you how he plans to spend his first NaNoWriMo.

JD – The NaNoNewbie

As my first NaNoWriMo, this has a startling feature, as twenty thousand words may be simple to some but a lot for me. What motivated me to start writing the most is not only my mom being an author from this activity but from two teachers I’ve had that made me and my peers write one thousand five hundred words in one day and that pushed me forward in all of this.

As an aspiring journalist, this may give a fun side of it all as fantasy is one kind of reality to some. People can also say “they dislike writing and reading” and that is not entirely true they can dislike learning it in a schoolyard but not everyone would be able to read at all and this gives a magical feel to it all. Therefore, everyone have fun and let it all begin!

From the both of us, to all the NaNoers, young and old, out there… For those about to write, we salute you!

JD is a creative and outspoken aspiring journalist. When not writing fantasy stories about gnomes and trolls he enjoys video games, particularly Minecraft, and playing football in the park.

Jenn Czep is a writer based in Arizona and a mom to JD. She enjoys pirates, belly dancing and has written many books, including Blackstrap’s Ecstasy, which she completed during NaNoWriMo.
