Susan was elated that finally she had all the family together for a special family portrait. Little did she know that by the end of the day, Steve, her loving husband of 20 years and parish priest, would be reading last rites to at least one member of the family and listening to a confression from his 15 year old step daughter, Debbie.
It was already too late when they realized the terrible synergistic effect of polyester clothing and hairspray on human behavior. Dad was the only one spared, likely due to his thinning hair, although he prefers to believe it was a divine side effect of his penchant for wearing clerical collars on every shirt.
Mom wanted a family portrait, one where they all looked like a normal family, even though everyone knew they were anything but normal. But she forgot her ribbon, the one holding her head in place after the accident, so Bobby stepped up and held her head in just the perfect position for the photographer.
Family photos, all smiles and good memories. These are the snap shots of our lives, clasping on to a particular moment, but really just promoting a desired result inconsistent with how our family lives really exist.
